3D Signs and Letters: An effective solution for business advertising

3D letters offer an attractive and effective advertising solution, allowing businesses to not only increase their brand recognition but also create a visual focal point that attracts customers. Illuminated signs are particularly striking, remaining noticeable both day and night. Experts from Brandex Design & Production Company have shared the secrets of producing 3D letters and the unique technologies used in their manufacturing.

Materials for 3D Letters

Various materials are used to manufacture 3D letters, with the most popular being:

  • Metal (aluminum, galvanized or stainless steel);
  • Acrylic (diffusive, transparent or colored);
  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC);
  • Polystyrene or expanded polystyrene. If illuminated 3D letters are required, light-transmitting materials such as acrylic or PVC are used. To save costs, acrylic can be used only for the front part, while the back wall can be made from more affordable materials, such as plastic. It is important to note that vinyl film is often used to create bright images on letters, avoiding the need for expensive colored acrylic.

Stages of 3D Letter Production:

  1. Design Development: The design must not only align with the corporate style but also harmonize with the city's architectural landscape. In some regions, such as Moscow, there are legal restrictions on the size and design of signs that must be considered.
  2. Material Selection: We offer a wide range of materials for letters and lighting, taking into account various operating conditions for both indoor and outdoor advertising.
  3. Production: First, the mockup is reviewed, then the materials are cut using CNC machines. This ensures high precision, resulting in a neat finished product.
  4. Assembly: After cutting the parts, they are sanded and assembled using professional adhesives. The backlight is also installed at this stage.
  5. Film Application: The front of the letters is covered with a diffusive film, such as Oracal 8500, while the sides and back are covered with regular colored film.
  6. Installation: After production is complete, installation follows. We recommend entrusting this task to professionals, especially if the sign will be installed outdoors and safety requirements must be met.

3D Letters with Exposed LEDs

3D letters with exposed LEDs stand out for their brightness and saturated glow due to the absence of a front panel. These structures consist of the following elements:

  • Letter body: The foundation of the entire structure, providing its shape and stability.
  • Front panel: The front part of the letter, absent in this type, allowing direct light output.
  • Side: The side walls that hold the structure and support the lighting elements.
  • End: Fastenings and elements that connect the structure together.

If the letters are large, their body is usually made of aluminum or composite materials. For smaller letters, PVC is most often used. LED modules are used as light sources, providing stable and bright illumination.

This type of advertising structure is often installed on building roofs or used in large facade signs. LEDs are known for their energy efficiency, low power consumption, and durability, allowing them to be used for a long time without the need to replace elements.

Additionally, LEDs are resistant to temperature changes and environmental influences, making them ideal for outdoor advertising. Due to their environmental characteristics, they are safe and not prone to ignition. The recommended height of the letters varies from 20 to 150 cm, and the thickness can be from 20 mm or more.

    3D Letters with Exposed Neon Tubes

    These 3D letters with exposed neon lighting differ only slightly in their structure from other types of advertising structures. The main components of this system include:

    • External surface: This is the part that attracts attention and forms the visual appearance.
    • Side surface: Provides rigidity and supports the letter structure.
    • Back panel: Serves as the base and helps stabilize the lighting elements.
    • Lighting components: The heart of the system, responsible for the glow and attracting attention.
    • The front part is created from a neon tube with a thickness of 8 to 15 mm. The side and back surfaces form a structure that regulates the intensity and direction of the light flux. This mechanism is called a reflector and helps direct the light in the desired direction, creating the desired visual effect.
    • In this design, neon threads are used, which repeat the contours of the letters and give them an effective glow. Instead of being enclosed, the neon is placed on the outside of the letters, creating a bright and unforgettable effect without the use of an external panel.

    3D Letters with Backlit Illumination

    Backlit illumination makes 3D letters highly visible in any conditions, regardless of lighting or weather. Thanks to the halo effect, such structures attract attention and stand out against other advertising signs. The main elements of the structure include:

    • Front panel: The external part of the letter, which can be made of various materials.
    • Side edge: The side walls of the structure that give the letter volume.
    • Lighting elements: LED modules that provide illumination.
    • End part: Fastening elements and protection for internal communications.

    For the front panel, PVC with a thickness of 3 to 6 mm is usually used, but acrylic, polystyrene, or aluminum composite materials can also be applied. LED modules are fixed to the back of the letters so that the light is directed onto the surface behind them, creating a unique lighting effect - the so-called "halo."

    The intensity and width of this halo are regulated by changing the distance between the letter and the surface onto which the light is directed. Usually, these are plastic or composite panels behind which all wires and fasteners are hidden.

    Backlit letters can have different heights, optimally from 30 to 200 cm, which allows them to be adapted for various types of buildings and advertising purposes.

    How is the cost of 3D letters determined?

    The pricing of advertising signs made from 3D illuminated letters depends on several key factors:

    • Construction size: The main parameters, such as the length, height, and thickness of the letters, have a direct impact on the final cost. The larger the dimensions, the more expensive the sign will be to manufacture.
    • Material selection: Materials for manufacturing 3D letters can vary from PVC and composite to polystyrene and metal. Combinations of these materials are also possible to achieve the optimal result. For example, using aluminum increases durability but also the cost of the sign.
    • Type of lighting: The presence of lighting also significantly increases the price. There are several lighting options: internal lighting (LEDs), external, neon lamps, and other technologies. LEDs are popular due to their durability and energy efficiency, but they can increase the cost of the structure.
    • Font complexity: More complex and detailed fonts require additional effort during production, which increases the overall cost. The simpler the chosen font, the cheaper the finished product will be.

    Other Advertising Structures

    A separate category is made up of pseudo-volumetric or flat letters, which are a simplified version of volumetric advertising elements. These letters are made of sheet plastic or composite materials and then covered with self-adhesive film to give them the desired color or texture. This approach is the most affordable in terms of budget, providing a volume effect without complex technologies and significant costs. The thickness of such letters varies from 5 to 15 cm, depending on the chosen material and project goals. Flat letters are most often used for interior advertising, creating elegant and stylish solutions for rooms. However, they can also be combined with volumetric elements to create more expressive and effective visual compositions. The advertising possibilities of such structures are virtually limitless. The main key to success is the correct choice of format and design depending on the specific tasks and features of the location. It is important to consider the type of building on which the advertisement will be placed, its architectural features, and the level of illumination. Only in this way can maximum advertising effect be achieved and attract attention to the brand.
